Career: Asteras Ano Liosion (Greece-B Division,1988-1992), Sporting (Greece-A2 and HEBA A1, 1992-1995), Olympiacos (Greece-HEBA A1, 1995-2002), Makedonikos (Greece-HEBA A1, 2002-2003), Panathinaikos (Greece-HEBA A1, 2003-…).
He is only 28 but is already a national team veteran. Many people didn’t expect his call from Yannakis after the end of the Rentzias Sigalas and Alvertis era. “He will be the next to go”, people said, but “Pap” (the three first leters of his surname, as nobody until now, outside Greece managed to pronounce his whole name correctly) or “Demetrio” as his nickname is because of his Italian adventure (although he never played there), took the call. Last season was one of his worst, but during the play-offs he took the chance that Obradovic gave him and played very well. Although many of the fans of Panathinaikos never liked him due to his stint with big rivals Olympiakos, “Pap” has re-signed for one more year with the Greens. If he makes the EuroBasket squad, it will be the 4th of his career (he missed the 1999 appointment due to an injury). And about his skills? When he plays for the national team he becomes a different player, a “monster” because (as the national flag tattooed on his arm shows) he loves to play for Greece. Member of the gold winning U18 team of 1995 (World Championship) together with Kakiouzis, he also has another gold as a cadet and many titles with Olympiakos and Panathinaikos (2 titles with each team plus 1+1 cups), including the Euroleague title in 1997.
