Hungarians Lower Boom On Denmark

Hungary hammered Denmark 101-70 on Thursday setting up a showdown with Sweden Friday, for the right to stay in Division A.

After a cruel additional qualifying tournament for EuroBasket 2007 which saw the Hungarians win two of their four games, just as group opponents Bosnia-Herzegovina and Bulgaria, yet drop into the relegation scrap, Istvan Nemeth and his teammates showed their class with a comprehensive victory.

Nemeth drilled six of nine shots from the arc and finished with a game-high 26 points to lead his men, who outscored the Danes 16-4 over the last three minutes of the first half to lead 54-44.

Four different Hungarian players connected from long range during that spurt which Denmark never recovered from.

Overall in the game, Hungary were 13 of 24 (54.1%) on their three-ball attempts.

Nemeth, a 1.88m guard, has been outstanding this summer, averaging 19 point in five games.

For Denmark, who had to play all summer without their talisman, Christian Drejer, Peter Johansen paced the attack with 17 points.
