Susan Foreid was delighted Portugal reaped the reward for their recent hard work by romping to a 77-61 victory over Luxembourg in their opening EuroBasket Division B qualifier.
Foreid ended the match in Oliveira do Hospital with a big smile following her 16-point haul - she also grabbed nine rebounds.
"My team-mates were responsible for my high points," she told PA Sport.
"It wasn't an easy game. It may sound like it was, but this is the result of our hard work over recent months."
With a positive start now under her belt, Foreid has already set her sights on the main goal.
"Like any member of our team, I believe we can reach Division A because we have fabulous players," she added.
Carlos Portugal, the Portugal head coach, was pleased to secure his first win in the job.
He said: "We were always leading the game. They did not cause us too many troubles.
"Against Bosnia-Herzegovina (in Sarajevo on Wednesday) we will have to raise our game."
Luxembourg head coach Hermann Paar was understandably disappointed after the defeat.
"We did well in the first two quarters," he said.
"We had already faced Portugal twice. We know how good they are. Portugal were as good as we expected."
Luxembourg have the chance to put things right when they tackle Estonia on Wednesday.
"What we have to do now is check some videos of our next opponents and try to do better," Paar added.
"I just have to say that I'm disappointed with the result, but we have to keep working."
