Greek Record Intact As They Trounce Latvia

10 July 2010

U20 European Championship Men defending champions Greece highlighted their supremacy in Group A as they wrapped up their impressive Preliminary Round campaign in dominant fashion with a crushing 82-53 success against Latvia.

Having already showcased their potent threat from all areas of the court during their previous wins against Czech Republic and Ukraine, Coach Missas used this contest to fine-tune the inside game of his team.

The Greeks went to work in the paint and dominated the glass with a blistering 30-12 start and full throttle finish leaving Latvia spinning - although they do still scrape into the Qualifying Round courtesy of their win against Czech Republic on day two.

At least Kristers Zeidaks is really excelling in Crikvenica and the Latvian forward was again the shining light for his team with 19 points although even he couldn't match Greece on the boards.

Zisis Sarikopoulos was the pick of the Greek big men with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

While the Greek forwards were impressive, shooting guard Nikolaos Pappas weighed in with 19 points - despite being unusually stone cold from the perimeter.
