Spain's Sanchez Receives One Game Suspension

07 July 2007

Spanish guard Alfonso Sanchez was suspended for one game at U20 European Championship Men by the event's Technical Commission for throwing a punch in his team's 88-69 victory over Croatia on Friday.

Sanchez was disqualified from the game with 2:51 remaining in the third quarter after an altercation with Croatian center Ante Tomic, in which the commission ruled Sanchez had thrown a punch at Tomic's face.

The 20-year-old player will miss Spain's Saturday game in Group C contest against FYROM.

When asked about the incident regarding his player, Spain coach Juan Antonio Orenga said: "It's really just part of the game. It was really childish though. It wasn't a punch - he basically just kind of hit him in the head. It was not that grave."
