EuroCup Women

Elitzur Ramla must be thinking they have one foot in the EuroCup Women Semi-Finals after blowing out Gran Canaria on Thursday in Israel.

Led by former EuroLeague Women stars Shay Doron and Le'Coe Willingham, Ramla rolled to a 78-54 victory.

Adan Inbar's team will now go to Spain, where Willingham once played with Halcon Avenida, with a massive first-leg advantage.

Israel international guard Doron had seven points in the first quarter as Ramla opened up a 21-8 lead.

Her three-pointer at the beginning of the second frame kept the momentum going and made it 24-8.

Gran Canaria briefly cut the deficit to 10 but a lay-up by Natasa Ivancevic, a three-pointer by Shiran Zairy and another lay-up by Willingham, who had 23 points and 21 rebounds in the contest, took the lead to 31-14.

The advantage ballooned to 43-23 with 17 seconds to go in the first half on a Doron basket which gave her 12 points.

Gran Canaria chipped away at the home side's lead in the third quarter and trailed by 15 heading into the fourth.

But they were outscored 22-13 in the frame and now face a gargantuan task in the second leg.

Tanasha Wright also had nine points, eight rebounds and eight assists for Ramla.

Italy international Kathrin Ress finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals for Gran Canaria.

If they need inspiration before the second leg, coach Domingo Díaz Martín may want to pull out the video replay of Dynamo Kursk's come-from-behind win against Municipal Targoviste last year.

Romanians Targoviste won the first leg of the EuroCup Women Quarter-Final, 75-57, but lost the second in Russia, 76-55, and fell 133-130 on aggregate.

Doron will certainly need no reminding of that tie.

She played for Targoviste.
