Dynamo Kursk Crush Bnot To Go Through

27 November 2008

Dynamo Kursk booked their place in the sixteenth-finals of the EuroCup Women with a 77-50 win over Bnot Hasharon on Thursday.

Knowing that a win would be enough to lift them above CSS-LMK SF. Gheorghe and into first place in Group B, Dynamo used a 19-0 run that straddled the half-time interval to take control of the game.

Irena Vizbariene scored 14 points and Varvara Psareva had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Dynamo, while Svetlana Maksimenko chipped in with 13 points, making three of five shots from three-point range.

Temeka Johnson led Bnot with 14 points.

Group D went down to the wire as Solna Vikings went down 98-82 on the road against Szeviep and paid the price as Universite BC Neuchatel beat Seat Foton Gyor 84-71 to grab second spot and go through.

Universite had five players scoring in double figures, led by Cameo Hicks who had 25 points and 12 rebounds. Noemie Mayombo added 15 points, Caroline Turin had 14, Alexia Rol 13 and Sophie Charlier 12.

It was a tough fight in Szeviep where both teams had five players score in double figures, but Solna had nothing to match the efforts of Olena Zherzherunova who finished with 24 points.

Elitzur Ramla already knew they were going through but they sealed top spot in Group C with a convincing 76-54 win over ZKK Crvena Zvezda.

Nicky Anosike was the star of the show, with the Tennessee product scoring 20 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, while Olena Ogorodnikova was not far behind with 19 points and six rebounds.

With qualification already secured, Kara Trutnov appeared to take their foot off the pedal as they went down 90-81 at home to Baschet ICIM Arad, who started the night last in Group H.

The battle for qualification from Group F was a straight fight between Gospic Croatia Osiguranje and KV Imperial AEL, and it went Gospic's way as they won 82-76 in a tense finish.

Gospic looked in control up 80-72 with 3:20 to play, but let Impercial score back-to-back baskets through Natasha Lacy and Shyra-Quontae Ely, closing the gap to four, before Martina Gambiraza sank a pair of free throws at the death to ice the win.

Jelena Ivezic led Gospic with 25 points and Carla Thomas had 17, while Lacy finished 22 and Jelena Velinovic 16 for Imperial.
