Dynamo Kursk put one foot in the EuroCup Women Semi-Finals on Thursday night by thrashing Athinaikos BC 77-52 in Kursk, Russia.
Varvara Psareva poured in 22 points to lead the way for the home side, who will now travel to Greece for the February 26 return led with a huge cushion.
Kursk dominated the boards 44-33 and did a lot of their damage from three-point land, making 10 of 20 compared to just five of 17 from the arc for Athinaikos.
Svetlana Maksimenko drilled three of her six attempts from long range.
The visitors struggled from the off.
After Kathryn Gearlds' shot from the arc cut the Dynamo lead to 11-7 midway through the opening quarter, the Russian outfit pulled away with a 13-3 run.
Kursk's Lithuania international guard Sandra Valuzyte had five points in that spurt.
In front 27-13 early in the second quarter, baskets by Ksenia Lapteva and Irena Vizbariene stretched the Dynamo advantage to 18.
Algirdas Paulauskas, the former Lithuania coach, had cause to feel very happy as his troops stayed on top and went to the changing room with a 42-24 stranglehold on the game.
Athinaikos make a brave attempt to get back into the game.
Gearlds' three-pointer three minutes into the third quarter trimmed the Kursk lead to 44-32.
But they got no closer.
Dynamo led 59-36 with 13 seconds to go in the third quarter and pressed home the advantage over the final frame.
