Andorra launched their bid for glory at the European Championship of the Small Countries Men with a 96-47 victory over Gibraltar.

In the Group A game on Day 2 of the event, Jaume Tomas Vilana's men raced into a 23-15 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched that to 42-28 by half-time.

Andorra then outscored Gibraltar 54-19 in the second half.

Albert Farfan led all scorers with 14 points whille Xavier Galera and Daniel Marin each had 12 points for Andorra, who face Moldova in their next game.


In Group B, Malta recorded their second victory in as many days, beating Wales, 81-51.

Malta's 21-year-old center, Samuel Deguara, had 20 points and 12 rebounds and veteran small forward Steve Schembri contributed 18 points and five boards.

Malta reeled off the game's first six points and led the rest of the way.

They outscored Wales 25-14 in the opening quarter and then took a 50-21 lead to half-time.

The Maltese out-rebounded the Welsh, 49-32.


Scotland bounced back from their setback to Malta on Monday with a 71-68 triumph over hosts San Marino.

Scott Russell had 19 points for the Scots in a very tight game from start to finish.

The biggest lead for either side was six points.

Alistair Mackay had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Nicholas Collins weighed in with 17 points and 10 boards.

The score was knotted at 62-62 with 4:52 to go when Russell drilled a jumper on a fast break for the Scots.

He then hit a couple of free-throws to push the advantage to 66-62.

After San Marino scored to close the gap to two, Russell drove in for a lay-up for his last points of the contest.

Andrea Raschi had 24 points and 11 boards for the hosts in defeat.
