Classification Games: 9th - 12th Place

Finland 97 Spain 99 (Double OT)
Although not much was expected of the first game in the classification round, the few spectators who made it for the 8:45 start were treated to a double-overtime thriller. Spain eventually overcame Finland by a narrow 2-point margin, the game nearly heading into a third extra period.

Finland 49 – Russia 81
Thanks to Russia’s loss yesterday to Ukraine, this game was do-or-die for both teams as a win handed the victor the last Quarter-Final place from Group A. Finland were still on an up after a great show against Slovak Republic but after the first 10 minutes today already started to look a little tired. Russia, however, looked in great shape, the key players having not played a lot of minutes against Ukraine.

Slovak Republic 65 Italy 54

Both teams started the Championship with a loss yesterday and neither wanted to continue in that trend. Nerves were very much in evidence during the first half and in particular the first quarter, as both teams turned the ball over countless times and were unable to covert any steals into points on the scoreboard
