Proteas Fight Back To Reach Final Four Again

Proteas EKA AEL claimed the first berth in the EuroChallenge Final Four with an 83-72 victory at EclipseJet MyGuide Amsterdam on Thursday night.

Haris Mujezinovic had 21 points and Quincy Taylor 19 for the Cypriot outfit, which had won the opening game of the Quarter-Final tie in Limassol, 82-72.

Amsterdam, playing again without injured center Peter van Paassen, led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter and still enjoyed a 51-36 advantage two minutes into the third period after a Clint Harrison dunk.

Proteas fought back and a 10-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters saw them take a 64-61 lead.

LaVell Blanchard's lay-up was the go-ahead basket at  62-61 and a Taylor jump shot finished the run with 9:17 remaining.

Tamien Trent answered with a basket for Amsterdam to close the gap to one, but that was as close as they would get.

Dragan Raca's team gradually pulled away over the rest of the frame for an impressive road win that ended the EuroChallenge campaign of the battling Dutch.

Teddy Gipson scored 19 points for Amsterdam, who had three others reach double figures.
