Proteas Pull Away In Third Quarter For Big Win Over Ural Great

03 February 2009

Proteas EKA AEL trounced Ural Great in Cyprus on Tuesday for their second straight win in as many EuroChallenge Top 16 games.

Dragan Raca's team turned this contest into a laugher in the third quarter and rolled to a 102-75 triumph in Group K.

The Cypriot giants, who hosted last year's EuroCup Final Four, reeled off the game's first six points and kept the pressure on, opening a 26-16 lead early in the second quarter on Aleksandar Radojevic's tap-in off a missed Vujadin Subotic lay-up.

Milan Dozet scored eight of his 15 points in the game in that strong start for Proteas.

Quincy Taylor's one-of-two effort at the line with three seconds remaining in the second quarter increased his points haul to 13 and gave the home side a 50-37 half-time advantage.

Proteas big man Haris Mujezinovic sparked a 7-0 run at the start of the third quarter with a three-pointer to give Raca's team a 57-37 lead and they kept the pressure on.

With 10 minutes to go, the home team's lead had ballooned to 80-52 and they was no chance of a Ural Great comeback.

Darrel Mitchell had a team-high 25 points for Proteas with Taylor contributing 23.

Proteas finished 10 of 21 from long range.

Darius Vashington had a game-high 26 points in defeat for Ural Great.
