Abrines Named U18 MVP

Alejandro Abrines Redondo collected 16 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots in leading Spain to a 71-65 victory over Serbia for the gold medal of the U18 European Championship and securing the Most Valuable Player award.

"This is incredible for me. A championship [title] and one MVP award. I have no words for this," said Redondo, who averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks as Spain won all nine of their games to claim the crown.

Redondo, who turns 18 on August 1, was playing for the Spanish national team for the first time.

Also on the All-Tournament Team was his Spanish teammate, power forward Daniel Diez as well as Serbian guards Nenad Miljenovic and Vasilje Micic and Polish center Przemyslaw Karnowski.
