A native of Schaerbeek, Beghin made his debut for Belgium in February 2000 and entered 2013 as one of the veterans of the team with 112 international appearances at senior level. He was previously a member of their Under-18 national team. Having started his career with Aalst, he was named as Belgium's Rookie of the Year in his first full campaign at Oostende in 2000. He is a four-time winner of the Belgian league championship: with Oostende in 2001 and 2002, playing under Eddy Casteels in the latter year, and then in 2008 and 2011 with Spirou Charleroi. He also won the Belgian Cup in 2001 and was the country's Player of the Year in 2002, 2009 and 2010. He attended the Athénée Emile Bockstael School in Brussels.
