GAME REPORT

USK Prague End Kibirkstis' Campaign

6. Laia Palau (ZVVZ USK Prague)
Laia Palau recorded a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double as ZVVZ USK Prague came back against Vilnius

Montenegrin star Jelena Dubljevic racked up 25 points to lead ZVVZ USK Prague to an 86-71 road win over Kibirkstis VICI-Vilnius, eliminating Kibirkstis from EuroLeague Women.

Kia Vaughn and Spanish international point guard Laia Palau added double-doubles to Dubljevic's strong night as the visitors recovered from a slow start to see off the feisty home side.

Kibirkstis needed to win their final two Group C games to overhaul CCC Polkowice for fifth place, but a 10-point lead in the opening quarter soon evaporated, with Palau's three-pointer tying the scores at the half-time interval.

The visitors stormed clear with a 22-6 run to open the second half, capped by Dubljevic's three-pointer.

Kibirkstis made one last push and cut the lead to seven points with four minutes remaining, but another turnover cost them dear as Palau grabbed her fifth of six steals and fed Dubljevic to seal the game.

Palau added 12 points and 11 assists and Vaughn had 16 points and 10 rebounds as coach Natalia Hejkova's top six all finished with double-figures in scoring.

Hollie Mershon led Kibirkstis with 14 points, but the Lithuanian team will rue their poor run of form, losing eight of the last nine EuroLeague Women games to slide out of contention.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Kibirkstis-Vici Vilnius vs. ZVVZ USK Prague

Kibirkstis-VICI Head Coach Jurgita Streimikyte-Virbickiene
"I am happy with the first half. The girls were playing smart on offence, and did their job on defence. We got the deficit in the third period as we started to make mistakes. Prague got six points after our mistakes in the first half and 29 in the second. Prague changed their defence on our pick and roll. All in all, the difference between the ability of the teams was obvious in the third period."

Kibirkstis-VICI player Hollie Mershon
"We played good in the first half, we did what the coach asked. It all changed in the second half, we lost track. Next week we wish to finish the EuroLeague Women season with a good result."

ZVVZ USK Head Coach Natalia Hejkova
"We knew that Kibirkstis-VICI Vilnius is a young team with potential and that it was not going to be easy tonight. We were struggling in the first half, but in the second we started to play better defence and so it was easier on offence."

ZVVZ USK Player Danielle Robinson
"We are happy with this win. Kibirkstis-VICI Vilnius is playing good at home and it was tough tonight. We got the momentum in the third period and maintained the lead."
