GAME REPORT

UMMC Bounce Back With Win Over Györ

13. Candace Parker (UMMC Ekaterinburg)
Candace Parker led the charge for UMMC Ekaterinburg as the Russian giants cruised to an easy win

UMMC Ekaterinburg got rid of the bad taste of their fourth-quarter collapse against Ros Casares last week with a convincing home triumph over Uni Seat Györ.

Algirdas Paulauskas' side took command of the EuroLeague Women Group A clash midway through the first quarter against the visitors from Hungary and claimed a 97-60 victory.

Candace Parker led the scoring parade with 19 points for UMMC.

Seven players in all reached double digits in points for Ekaterinburg.

The hosts led 10-8 with 5:41 remaining in the opening frame when they landed blows that Györ would not recover from.

Olga Arteshina connected from long range to start a 21-8 run to end the first quarter.

Several UMMC players scored in that decisive spurt.

To remove any hope of a Uni Seat comeback, Ekaterinburg reeled off the first 13 points of the second quarter for a 44-16 lead with 5:52 to go in the period.

By half-time, the lead was 58-29 and three-quarter time, it was 76-52.

The Russian team coasted to victory over the last 10 minutes to improve to 5-2 in Group A and drop Györ to 1-6.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes UMMC Ekaterinburg vs. Uni Seat Györ

Uni Seat Gyor Head Coach Akos Fuzy:
"My congratulations to UMMC because they did really well today. They played as one team and you can see that more then 7 players ended up with more then 10 points. But I am proud of my young team. It did well especially in the second half and the audience saw it. Of course we have a lot of hard work to do to play on the same level with the team from Ekaterinburg. This game gave us good experience and hope we will be able to use new knowledge to show a good game in the national championship. Wish UMMC good luck in EuroLeague."

Uni Seat Gyor forward Gyorgyi Ori:
"We still need to work hard and it is obvious, but today we tasted basketball of the highest level in the world. Hope we will learn a new experience and will be able to apply it in the Hungarian national championship. We are a young team and today it was a unique opportunity to play against world-level stars like Candace Parker. I am proud of our team and hope we will do better."

UMMC forward Candace Parker:
"Coming out in this game we knew we will have to play tough defense, because the Hungarian team had tall players in the zone and a couple of good player at the perimeter. We also knew they were good at rebounding. In the second half they picked up a good fight and jumped on us at a high speed. It is a young team and hope they will be able to do much better."

UMMC Head Coach Algirdas Paulauskas:
"It was a game divided into two different parts. In the first half the team was tuned for the game and demonstrated fast breaks and runs on offense. After the break it calmed down and it seemed like we almost gave up playing. Meanwhile the guests seemed as being an absolutely different team. We had a good scoring advantage but still the Hungarian team managed to level the game. It made us wake up. I know the Hungarian team for a couple of years and tonight I saw great positive changes and it means that a lot of positive work has been already done."
