GAME REPORT

Pecs 2010 Win In Riga

Pecs 2010 stopped the rot and beat TTT Riga for the second time this season in EuroLeague Women Group A.

Leading just 39-38 at the end of the third quarter, Zjelko Djokic's team poured in the first six points of the fourth to take control and eventually claimed a 59-49 triumph.

In that important scoring burst at the start of the fourth, Kelsey Griffin, who had 17 points and eight rebounds for Pecs, drilled a jumper and then made one of two free-throws before Dalma Ivanyi buried a three-ball for a 45-38 lead.

Riga, who upset Mondeville last week for their first victory, reeled off six unanswered points to close the gap to 49-45 with 2:32 left.

They weren't able to pull any closer.

The Latvians got 12 points and 15 rebounds from Quanitra Hollingsworth.

Pecs, beaten by Hungarian rivals and fellow EuroLeague Women side MKB Euroleasing Sopron at the weekend, snapped a four-game losing streak in Europe to improve to 2-4 while Riga fell to 1-5.

COACH QUOTES

TTT Riga - Pecs

Zofia Fegyverneky, Pecs 2010:
"I think we did really good job in defense. We allowed only 49 points, for EuroLeague it's excellent. That's the main reason why we won the game. We didn't shoot so good and even with that we could win. I think we also stopped two best scorers of Latvian team, they scored together only 26 points. That's not so much considering how much they score usually. We played as a team and it was really good job."

Zeljko Djokic, Head coach Pecs 2010:
"We had very hard schedule in November, playing 9 of our last 12 games as visitors without time for practice. This game for this young team was crucial, the most important one. With the win we have chance to fight for Top 16 because in the next round we will play in Pecs again. Game was decided by two things. First, we wanted to win more, it showed most of all in defense. Second, we won the battle of rebounds. We are very happy."

Anda Eibele, TTT Riga:
"If you score only 49 points, it's difficult to win. We lost too much points in the beginning and were chasing opponents rest of the way. We were better in second and third quarter, however, weren't able to finish the job. It feels like somebody is sitting on the top of our rim, our shooting percentage is terrible."

Aigars Nerips, Head Coach TTT Riga:
"We started very bad (0:14), afterwards we fought back but didn't managed to maintain our rhythm. We didn't played well as a team."
