Good Angels Kosice won for the third straight time in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday evening and avenged their season-opening defeat to MKB Euroleasing Sopron in the process.
Stefan Svitek's team, beaten 74-63 in the first game between the sides back on October 28, bounced back and claimed a 75-58 Group C victory in Slovakia.
The hosts had a fight on their hands and didn't start to take control until the third quarter.
On top 39-36, Kosice got a three-pointer from Linda Frohlich to settle their nerves.
Sopron tried to play catch-up and stayed within striking distance for a while with a Katalin Honti basket reducing the arrears to 44-40.
But Angel McCoughtry hit a three-pointer and Candice Dupree followed with a lay-up to make it 49-40 midway through the frame.
At the end of the quarter, Kosice held a 58-50 advantage.
The opponents from Hungary managed to pull to within seven in the fourth quarter but Kosice won comfortably in the end.
McCoughtry finished with 24 points and Candice Dupree had 16 points along with 11 rebounds.
Jelena Milovanovic, back after an injury lay-off, finished with 17 for Sopron, who are now 2-4.
Tijana Krivacevic had 13 points for Sopron but failed to take a claim a single rebound.
Štefan Svitek, Košice Coach:
"From the beginning we were a more confident team, we went for our goal. We produced a concentrated performance. We played great basketball."
Norbert Székely, Sopron Coach:
"It is hard for me to say something because Kosice were just the better team. We had a lot of turnovers (23) and it is too much. The home players played excellent on defense, we did not have enough confidence in shooting. We changed the defense, but for our players there is quite a lot to do now."
Amber Holt, Sopron:
"We played well in the first half, in the second we lost the game. However it is difficult for us, because of illness and injury of our players."
