Laura Macchi hit game-winning three-pointer with nine seconds remaining to lift Beretta-Famila Schio to a 58-55 victory at MiZo Pecs 2010 in EuroLeague Women Group B.
MiZo, trailing by 11 points midway through the fourth quarter on Thursday night, battled back and knotted the contest at 55-55 with 35 seconds to play when the heart and soul of their team, veteran playmaker Dalma Ivanyi, drilled a three-pointer.
The joy was short-lived for the home fans, though, as Macchi connected from behind the arc near the end to put Schio back on top for good.
MiZo Pecs did have time to pull level again.
The home side called a timeout and when play resumed, Ivanyi launched a potential game-tying three-ball but missed.
Pecs forward Anna Vajda grabbed the rebound and passed it back outside to Ivanyi and she again put up a shot that was off target.
The final buzzer then sounded, leading to on-court celebrations for the team from Schio.
Beretta-Famila managed to prevail despite turning the ball over 24 times, with Elisabetta Moro guilty of six turnovers.
MiZo weren't much better, though, as they had 21 turnovers.
Macchi finished with 17 points for Schio.
She also led her team's effort on defense, coming up with four steals.
Macchi hit three of five three-pointers with Schio making six of 11 as a team.
Nora Nagy-Bujdosó had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for MiZo-Pecs.
MiZo Pecs 2010 Coach Zeljko Dokic:
Our American players arrived in Hungary too late. We are looking for the shape of the team. Our young players were not so good. We believe our play will be better and better in the long season.

I am very sad . We did not shoot well.
Beretta Familia Head Coach:
My team is a crazy team. My team played without mind. We were full of experience and talent. It was the first game in the ELW and everyone were very nervous.
Beretta Familia Player Audrey Sauret - Gillespie:
We had great offences and we were very aggressive. That is why we could win today with 2 points.
