For the Delta I.C.P. Kosice players this game against BK Loko Trutnov was exceptionally important because so far the Slovak champions had only defeats after four EuroLeague Women Group B games.
A fifth would mean the end to any promotion hopes.
The Czech club started very well and after one minute was ahead 5:0. However Kosice's Frniakova pulled her team together and she alone scored 10 points in the first quarter. One of the advantages of the home team was their ability to fight for everything and after 10 minutes Delta had an 8 point lead.
In the second quarter Delta was ahead 30:18, however, Trutnov was able to pull back to 30:24. Despite this, Jalcova kept her team-mates cool by piling in 6 points in a row before the break.
In the second half it was as if both teams had forgotten all about defence. Inaccuracies were common on both sides as the teams went end to end again and agin. Trutnov wanted to get back in to the game by shooting from the outside, to no avail. The Kosice players counterattacked with shots from under the basket.
The home team was winning at the beginning of the fourth quarter 65:53, but their rivals refused back down. After a three-pointer from Uhrova in the 34th minute, the score was back at 66:62. Two minutes later the difference was only two points thanks to Kuritkova's scoring.
Delta became nervous and with 95 seconds remaining Uhrova scored two free throws – 73:72. After a three-pointer from Stejskalova with 14 seconds on the clock it was equal – 78:78.
But the last word belonged to the best shooter of the game – Frniakova. She scored both free throws and Delta I.C.P. could start celebrating its first historic victory in the EuroLeague – 80:78.
