Russia Clinch First In Group E

Tatiana Petrushina's 18 points paced three players in double figures as Russia secured first place in their qualifying round Group E of the U20 European Championship for Women with a 76-59 victory over France, who played the second half without two of their best players.

Anastasia Logunova collected 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals and Anastsiya Shilova chipped in 17 points for Russia, who improved to 4-1.

France dropped to 3-2 in the group despite 16 points from Alexia Plagnard.

France lost top scorer and rebounder Diandra Tchatchouang with a left ankle injury at the end of the first quarter and third-leading scorer Medelome Medenou also went out for the game with a left ankle injury midway through the second quarter.

With both players being looked after on the bench, the French went the final seven minutes without a point in a 13-0 Russia run for a 32-22 lead at the break.

France were able to trim the margin to six points in the third period. And the short-handed French went scoreless over nearly three minutes in the fourth quarter as Russia pulled away for good.
