| NEWSPolish coach Roman Skrzecz is extremely disappointed about his side's sixth place finish at the Under-20 European Championships for Women in France. Poland's tournament got off to a terrible start with a 65-56 defeat to Hungary and though they qualified for the knockout stage, tournament favourites Russia eliminated them in the quarter-finals. |

Russia Champions! Russia completely outplayed France this evening to take the title of the Eural Trans Gas European Championship for U20 Women 2004. They were clearly the stronger of the two teams and simply played in a different class from their hosts. Once they established a lead they held onto it for the remainder of the game, their solid defence impervious to any French attack. |

After narrowly losing to Hungary in the Preliminary Round games, the Czech Republic were determined that there would be no repeat of that this afternoon. For almost 30 minutes the game could have gone either way but Hungary lacked their top scorer Anna Vajda (15 points, 5 rebounds) when they needed her most and the Czechs turned it to their complete advantage in the latter stages. |

Not content at taking home the MVP trophy from the European Championship for U18 Women in Bratislava 2 weeks ago, Ukraine’s Olexandra Gorbunova has similarly dominated this competition. She received the Most Valuable Player Award to great applause from her own teammates and other teams alike. Scoring an average of 26.3 points a game she was was the go-to player in every game. |

In contrast to the previous game, this Semi-Final was won almost entirely on defence and both teams had great trouble putting the ball in the net. Neither team was able to put away the easy basket and points were missed on the fastbreak as well as in the paint. France shot a miserable 37% from 2-point land and only redeemed themselves by shooting 4/8 from outside the 3-point line. Hungary hit only 34% in twos and didn’t make one single 3-pointer in 7 attempts. |
