Poland, Bulgaria and Sweden Win
Poland, Bulgaria and Sweden enjoyed winning starts to the additional qualifying round for the EuroBasket Women on Wednesday.

The Poles, who narrowly missed out on automatic qualification, won 68-63 in Group A at Finland but they found themselves in danger of being upset at the end of the third quarter after Taru Tuukkanen buried a three-pointer to give the hosts a 52-46 lead.

The Road To EuroBasket Women 2007

EuroBasket Women 2007 qualifying is nearly complete and there are a number of teams who still have a chance to advance to the Final Round in Chieti, Italy.

A total of nine spots are on offer with the top teams from the each group directly qualifying to EuroBasket 2007, along with the four best second placed teams, determined according to:

Evanthia Maltsi rattled in 33 points as Greece extended their EuroBasket Women qualifying record to 4-1 with an 81-55 defeat of Bulgaria in Pravets.

Maltsi scorched the Bulgarian defense with 13/20 shooting including seven of nine from three-point range.

Marinov Agonises Over Bulgaria Defeats

Bulgaria coach Petko Marinov was in despondent mood after seeing his side lose their fourth straight EuroBasket Women qualifier at the hands of Belarus, describing himself as "the worst possible coach."

Bulgaria last won the European title in 1951 and finished third as recent as 1989, but there were no indications on Saturday in their 74-56 setback in Minsk they could be contending for a crown any time soon.
