Latvia beat Ukraine 73-58 to earn their first victory of the qualifying round in Rethimnon today.
The result means that the two teams who, prior to the game were with Israel the only sides without a win in the qualifying round, will finish bottom of Group F and play for places 9 through to 12 over the weekend.
Toni Prostran and Ivan Batur showed just why they are a feared twosome in this tournament as they combined for 48 points to lead Croatia past Ukraine 84-62 in the qualifying round in Rethimnon.
Prostran, who finished with a game-high 32 points in just 26 minutes, used his poor performance in a loss to Turkey yesterday – in which he shot four for 19 from the field for his tournament low of 11 points – as a source of motivation for today’s game.
Greece survived a furious third quarter run by Ukraine to take an 80-64 win in their qualifying round game at Rethimno tonight.
Gennadiy Dzyuba, who didn’t take a shot in the first half, made four three-pointers while Maks Konate did some damage inside as Ruban Oleg’s men fought back from a 41-30 half-time deficit, to trail by just six, 58-52, heading into the final period.
Andriy Lebedintsev and Maksym Sandul combined for 46 points as Ukraine beat Portugal 67-55 to clinch their first win of the group stages at Ierapetra.
The result means that Oleg Ruban’s men will go through to the qualifying round of the competition while Portugal will have to fight for survival after finishing at the bottom of Group C without a win (0-3).
