GAME REPORT

France Win, Lithuania's Hopes Die

By Jared Grellet

7. Lenny Charles-Catherine (France)
That was close: Lenny Charles-Catherine and France escape elimination with a win over Germany

Germany have been unable to repay the Lithuanian crowd in Panevezys, losing to France 55-49 and ending the home team's hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals at the Dadu U16 European Championship.

The win for Frances means they now advance to the final eight at the expense of Lithuania.

Trailing by 13 at the half-time break the game already looked over for Germany but following an incredulous third quarter, the Germans gave the fans who had remained behind in Cido Arena a glimmer of hope.

In that quarter Germany gave up no free-throws and did not allow the French to hit a shot from the field, whilst hitting four-for-five three-pointers at the other end of the court to win the quarter 17-0 and take a four-point lead into the final frame.

However, after 15 minutes without a point, France recovered in the last quarter as Germany became guilty of giving up too many turnovers, allowing the French to come back for the win.

Lenny Charles-Catherine was the only French player to make double figures, finishing with 14 points.

Joschka Ferner lead all scoring with 18 points.
