After spending a season with German top flight club Mitteldeutscher BC, Meiers returned to BK Ventspils, where he had previously played for four seasons. A mobile big man with an imposing wingspan who runs the floor well, the 24-year-old started all but one game for Latvia in the Qualification Round. Despite being among the minute leaders among big men, he averaged only 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in the qualifiers, which was a decline in comparison to his numbers during the final stage of EuroBasket in 2011 and 2013. However, Coach Bagatskis has continued to show trust in the youngster. Following a decent season in Ventspils, he was picked up by Latvian champions VEF Riga, who inked the center to a two-year contract.
