Chavdar Kostov remains one of the great hopes of Bulgarian basketball and at the age of 23, perhaps the stage is set for him to increase his influence in a National Team vest. Having enjoyed a positive Qualifying Round last summer when he was the second best three-point shooter in the tournament, the guard has just completed a first season overseas playing in Greece having previously spent his career playing in the Bulgarian league. While he didn't play huge minutes in the Greek league, he showed glimpses of his shooting ability which helped establish a powerful offensive record during his youth career. He regularly poured in a big number of points and at his peak during his teenage years managed to average nearly 25 points per game at the U18 European Championship. As well as stepping out at EuroBasket 2009, Kostov also played at the World University Games during the same year in Belgrade. A former Bulgarian League All Star, he is a good shooter from pretty much all over the court, has a good first step and will be expected to support his team in the scoring stakes. However the responsibility will be nothing like the unfair expectations put on his shoulders during his younger days.
