Diaw was granted his international debut in 2002 against Poland, making over 150 appearances for the French side. Slovenia will be his sixth EuroBasket while he has also featured in two World Championships and an Olympic Games. He was a member of the France team which won the U18 European Championship 2000 and which took silver at EuroBasket 2011. He began his professional career with Pau-Orthez, winning the French League in 2001 and 2003 and the French Cup (2002, 2003). The Atlanta Hawks chose him with the 21st pick of the 2003 NBA Draft, while he has also played for Phoenix and Charlotte before linking up with close friend Tony Parker at the San Antonio Spurs in 2012 with both featuring in the 2013 NBA Finals. His mother Elisabeth Riffiod was a celebrated France international center (247 appearances) while his father Issa Diaw represented Senegal in track and field. His two brothers, Paco and Martin, both played collegiate basketball in the USA. He has a foundation, Babac'Ards, which helps Senegalese youth. His full name is Boris Babacar Diaw-Riffiod.
