GAME REPORT

Ros Comeback Shocks UMMC In Valencia

12. Ann Wauters (Ros Casares)
Ann Wauters carried Ros Casares over long stretches of the game and finished with 17 points.

Ros Casares stunned UMMC Ekaterinburg in the fourth quarter to win their EuroLeague Women heavyweight battle, 60-52.

In the Group A clash and trailing 50-39 at the start of the period after a Yelena Leuchanka basket for the Russian team, Ros increased the pressure on defense and their tenacity on the boards.

That allowed them to reel off 15 unanswered points.

Six of UMMC's 16 turnovers came in the fourth quarter with Ros getting six points off those miscues in the last frame.

A Laia Palau three-ball sparked the decisive run, while Ann Wauters and Sancho Lyttle dominated on the inside on both ends of the floor in the last 10 minutes.

Lyttle had six of her 12 points in the game-winning spurt and Wauters four of her 17.

UMMC's Olga Arteshina closed the gap to 54-52 with a lay-up on a fast-break, but Palau and Silvia Dominguez replied with drives to stretch the lead to six and get the La Fonteta crowd on its feet.

Lyttle finished the scoring with a pair of free-throws as Ros prevailed for the fifth time in six Group A games.

UMMC dropped to 4-2 with the setback.

Leuchanka had 12 points to lead UMMC, who had a scare in the fourth quarter when Candace Parker fell to the court holding her right knee in pain.

The talented forward left the game but later returned.

Ros out-rebounded UMMC 44-41, with Lyttle pulling down 11.

The Spanish club also got 17 points off 16 UMMC turnovers.

Ros got 34 of their points in the paint to 28 for UMMC.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Ros Casares vs. UMMC Ekaterinburg

Ros Casares head coach Natalia Hejková:
"I'm very very happy about this game because this was perfect. We were down three quarters, but we showed so much heart in the last quarter, this is worth something. We didn't shoot well, we didn't play excellent offense but finally we showed what we can do it. Everybody was fighting and this is the key why we won this game".

UMMC head coach Algirdas Paulauskas:
"We started very well but in the last quarter we play very fast, hurried and did not have any flow. The opponents used it and they won. We didn't play clever".

Ros Casares forward Sancho Lyttle:
"The first three quarters we didn't play well. Shots went in and out, so I know that if we didn't play very well in the last quarter, we could have lost this game".

UMMC center Yelena Leuchanka:
"I'm really upset we played so well for three quarters but we went down in the four quarter. I think a score of four points is unacceptable. It is not about how you start, it is how you finish".
