GAME REPORT

Ros Back On Track With Win Over Gdynia

9. Laia Palau (Ros Casares)
Ros Casares captain Laia Palau did a little bit of everything on Wednesday night, finishing with 14 points, 13 assists and four steals

Ros Casares bounced back from last week's upset defeat at VICI Aistes by winning at home against a battling Lotos Gdynia on Wednesday night in the EuroLeague Women.

Club captain Laia Palau had 14 points, 13 assists and four steals and Ann Wauters scored 21 as Ros prevailed, 84-70.

The Spaniards joined Galatasaray (both 8-2) at the top of Group A.

Ros Casares, coached by veteran Natalia Hejkova, scored the game's first five points and led the entire time against their Polish opponents.

While Javier Fort's Lotos Gdynia team lost for the eighth time in 10 EuroLeague Women games, they looked organized and never gave up.

Ros Casares went in front by 19 in the third quarter but Lotos fought back and pulled to within 62-54 at the beginning of the fourth quarter when Ivana Jalcova hit a shot from long range.

A crucial sequence followed, with the hosts going to the other end and getting two offensive rebounds.

Eshaya Murphy ended up scoring for a 64-54 lead.

Sancho Lyttle, who was ill and didn't travel to Kaunas last week, then scored five straight points for the home side to stretch the advantage to 15.

Murphy's three-ball with 1:54 to play put Ros Casares on top, 80-60.

Lotos Gdynia made the score line look more respectable with a good finish.

Murphy finished with 17 points and Lyttle 15 for Ros.

Lauren Jackson played 19 minutes and had seven points and a rebound.

Fort, who used to coach at Rivas Ecopolis in Madrid, returned to La Fonteta - the venue where he celebrated a Copa de la Reina triumph last season.

Geraldine Robert had 16 points and eight rebounds for Gdynia.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Ros Casares vs. Lotos Gdynia

Lotos Gdynia Head Coach Javier Fort
"We knew that our choices in this game were not to allow Ros Casares to play easy near the basket. I think we did it but they made shots of three points and they have been good in this today."

Ros Casares Head Coach Natalia Hejková
"It was a little bit strange game because we started very well with tall people and this worked seven minutes. With the changes this was not the same. But I think this is the way that we can play in the future and we need more and more time to play like this."

Lotos Gdynia player Adrijana Knezevic
"We know that Ros Casares is a strong team, with four very good players inside. We tried to do our game and I think this time it was better than in Poland".

Ros Casares player Shay Murphy
"We need to grow like a team and sometimes we don't play strong enough and we miss some shots. When we miss, we have to have a stronger defense, like a team. So, we need to work to improve that."
