GAME REPORT

Fenerbahce Set Up Decider With Rivas

Turning Point: Trailing by nine points at half-time and with the double headache of Angel McCoughtry in foul trouble and Penny Taylor having injured her knee, it looked bleak for Fener but a stunning 18-4 start to the second half changed everything.

Game Heroes: Zane Tamane was outstanding for Fenerbahce with a near double-double of 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Stats Don't Lie: Galatasaray shot 16% from three-point range while the influential Taurasi was 6 of 24 from the field. Just four points in the last six minutes was also fatal.

An excellent second half performance by Fenerbahce propelled them to a 75-67 derby win against Galatasaray Medical Park and set up a winner takes all clash with Rivas Ecopolis for a place in the final.

Both clubs will meet on day three of the EuroLeague Women Final Eight in what promises to be a mouth-watering match-up for a place in Sunday's Final against Ros Casares

Each side has claimed two wins from their two games with Fenerbahce managing to preserve their proud unbeaten record this season in the tournament with success against their city rivals.

It was far from straightforward for Coach Dikeoulakos and his players who were outplayed and generally second best throughout a difficult opening half.

Down 45-36 and struggling to contain the excellent Tina Charles, the interval came at just the right time for Fenerbahce as they re-grouped.

Their blistering start to the third quarter not only bridged the points gap but put them on the front foot for the rest of the game - even without the hugely important Taylor to call upon.

Birsel Vardarli was the main architect as she sunk successive three-pointers to put Fenerbahce 52-49 ahead.

While Galatasaray managed to tie the game at 63-63 via a score from downtown by Taurasi, Fenerbahce weren't to be denied.

With Tamane having one of her best games for the club at both ends of the court, she was instrumental in ensuring Fener came out on top in the closing stages with a 12-4 run as Galatasaray dried up offensively.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Galatasaray vs. Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce head coach George Dikeoulakos
"I don't know what to say. When the game was finished, my mind was on Penny Taylor. I am very glad that we won. The game has two different pictures. First half was totally different than the second. In the first half we hesitated in offence and were very slow both on offence and defense. That made us a little bit angry. But on the third quarter our difference was amazing. You can see that the stats say everything. We forced Galatasaray to score only 12 points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth. I think that was the key. We always make a difference when we translate our good defense into offense with energy and fast breaks. The fans were also amazing today. We took our energy from them. But it is just the second game and if we want to do something we have to win tomorrow."

Fenerbahce point guard Elina Babkina
"I think it was great for us to win while one of our best players, Penny Taylor, was injured. It is really good that we played as a team and I think that is the key of the game. We were not selfish and played together."

Galatasaray Medical Park head coach Ceyhun Yıldızoğlu
"We were better than yesterday. We knew Fenerbahçe's strength. They are very experienced and know each other very well. Today we fought and lost. Congratulations to Fenerbahçe, they deserved this game."

Galatasaray point guard Ticha Penicheiro
"We fought really hard in the first half just like the first game. But we lost and unfortunately we are down two games. "
