Vesela Puts Ros On Way To Victory

4. Jana Veselá (Ros Casares)
Jana Veselá's three pointer kicked off the best phase of Ros Casares as the overcame a battling prague side

Ros Casares avenged their home defeat to ZVVZ USK Prague by winning the rematch in the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

In an important Group A game, Sancho Lyttle led a balanced Ros attack with 12 points as the visitors prevailed, 81-70.

Prague had a 44-39 lead in the last minute of the first half after two free-throws by Frida Eldebrink.

The Swede had nine points in the first half.

But Ros got their noses in front to stay with 2:50 to go in the third quarter when Czech Republic international Jana Vesela buried a three-pointer.

That started a run for the Spanish team that put it in command.

Maya Moore, Ann Wauters and Eshaya Murphy followed with jumpers for a 60-52 Ros lead.

The visitors went in front by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter before settling for an 11-point triumph.

Eva Viteckova had 17 points for Prague, but it wasn't enough to prevent Lubor Blazek's team from dropping to 6-5.

Prague are in fifth place, behind Bourges who prevailed 65-49 over Lotos Gdynia to improve to 6-5.

Ros, meanwhile, leapfrogged Galatasaray back into first place with both sides 9-2.

The Spaniards hammered Gala in their first encounter in Turkey.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes ZVVZ USK PRAGUE vs. ROS CASARES

Coach Roberto Iniguez (Ros Casares)
"Today it was a game of two quality teams. During the third and fourth quarter we improved our defence, especially 1-on-1, and we were more aggressive in offensive play. I really appreciate this victory."

Ros Casares center Lauren Jackson
"I'm glad that our team showed character. In the first half we weren't so good in defence, but we improved it in the second. It's always tough to play against Prague and I'm satisfied that we won."

Coach Lubor Blazek (ZVVZ USK Prague)

"First of all, I would like to congratulate Valencia, a team that I respect. We started very well and we quickly gained confidence. At the beginning of the second half we didn't start as well as in the first, we failed to score four good chances. Because of that Valencia became confident, they changed their defence and started to play more aggressively. We weren't able to handle this pressure and to keep our system. Valencia's victory is deserved. Although we lost I think we played a good match today. It's upsetting we didn't win because we had a chance to beat them."

Prague center Petra Kulichova
"Ros Casares is an excellent team. They had a big motivation, because they wanted to pay back for our victory in Valencia. Unfortunately they succeeded. They had height advantage and this was visible in rebounds. They also scored a lot of second chance points. In the first half we were successful in both shooting and defensive work. Despite the fact that we lost concentration in the second half, it was a good game, sadly without a victory."
