BG Göttingen collected their second win of the German season at the weekend but they were no match for a visiting Besiktas Milangaz on Tuesday.
The Turkish team, which won the first encounter after a 50-point explosion by Deron Williams back on November 22, cruised to a 96-59 victory in Germany.
Besiktas finished top of Group B with six wins in as many games, and dropped the Violets to 0-6.
With Great Britain power forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu in the line-up and scoring 21 points and pulling down nine rebounds, Besiktas blew away their hosts.
By the end of the opening frame, the lead was 29-13 for Besiktas and Mensah-Bonsu already had 14 points and six rebounds.
The visitors extended the advantage to 77-41 by half-time and never looked back.
Ersin Dagli added 18 points and nine rebounds for Besiktas.
"I think we really played a great game tonight - on all parts of the court. Defensively, we stopped them at 24 points in the first half. Offensively we played great because we shot great in field goals, 60 percent in 2-point-shots and 50 percent 3-point-shots. We had 22 assists and a lot of rebounds. I don't think the difference between teams is the result of tonight's game. Göttingen gave big problems to us in Istanbul. We had Deron Williams in that game who scored 50 points. Tonight without Williams and without injured Marcelus Kemp we played great basketball. I also used young players. Kartal Özmizrak is 17 years old and he played 20 minutes tonight. Our aim is to win this EuroChallenge cup!"
Besiktas Milangaz center Pops Mensah-Bonsu:
"It was my second game. I just wanted to come out and play with energy and an intensity, so my teammates could feed off my energy. I am new here and want to establish myself. I just want to help the team in any way possible. I do whatever the coach wants me to do. I am not trying to fill up the shoes of the players we had before. I m just coming here to do what I can do best."
BG Göttingen head coach Michael Meeks:
"Besiktas showed why they finished first in this group. They are probably one of the better teams in the EuroChallenge. They actually were easier to prepare for when they had two NBA guys on the team, because we could focus on them. Now without them, they play even better basketball. You have to focus on everybody. They are professionals and know what they are doing."
BG Göttingen forward Malte Herwig:
"We wanted to win games in this competition. We came close to a win a couple of times. It is disappointing we could not get a success. Of course we had some time to deal with the fact that we are eliminated from the competition. But still it is disappointing to us."
