GAME REPORT

Krasnye Krylia Stay Perfect In Group B

Chester Simmons (Krasnye Krylia)
Chester Simmons and Krasnye Krylia dominated the game against Joensuun Kataja for three quarters

A double-double from Nikita Balashov helped Krasnye Krylia Samara breeze to a convincing 96-86 road win at Joensuun Kataja to stay perfect in EuroChallenge Group B.

A third straight win never looked anything but very likely after a truly whirlwind start by the Russian team who swept aside their hosts 29-16 in a one-sided opening quarter.

From that point onwards, the Finnish side was always playing catch up and the game was effectively over as a contest by the time both clubs hit the locker rooms with Krasnye Krylia having extended their lead to 56-34.

The Finns couldn't cope with the power under the hoop of the visitors and with their perimeter game also impressing, it was a long way back, despite the best efforts of Jermaine Flowers and Julian Terrell who combined for 38 points.

The home side narrowed the gap in the final quarter, outscoring their opponent 18-8 in the last few minutes but it didn't disguise the dominance of the winning team who eased off the gas.

Evgeny Kolesnikov was Samara's best scorer with 19 points and Omar Thomas was in fine form from downtown with three of four triples as he harvested 16 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Joensuun Kataja vs. Krasnye Krylia

Joensuun Kataja head coach Jukka Toijala
"We made lots of mistakes on the defensive end and against such a great team you cannot do that. Krasnye Krylia made us pay big time after every mistake in defense or after bad shots on offense."

Kataja player Julian Terrell
"In the first half our offensive execution was poor. We didn't really play our kind of basketball. Also lots of mistakes in defense led to easy baskets for the opposing team."

Krasnye Krylia head coach Sergey Bazarevich
"I am happy for the win and I don't really care about the margin. In the end it was 10 points, but that's enough. We had a though 10 day away-trip behind us and therefore I'm pleased about the game and win."

Krasnye Krylia player Evgeny Kolesnikov
"I think that we played well today."
