GAME REPORT

Dijon Claim First Win In Thriller

44. Terrance Campabell (JDA Dijon)
Terrance Campbell was the spark plug for JDA Dijon, erupting for 24 points in the French side's first win

JDA Dijon and Gaz Metan Medias served up another thriller as the hosts hung on 83-79 at the finish to stay alive in Group D of the EuroChallenge.

Dijon began the night winless while the Romanians arrived with a 3-0 record, but anyone who saw the previous meeting between the two, a 92-89 Medias victory in overtime, knew to expect a close battle and that is exactly what they got.

Although Medias had got off to a hot start, leading 20-9 on Slobodan Dundjerski's free throws six minutes into the game, that advantage had evaporated 10 minutes later when Terrance Campbell hit a three-pointer to make it 37-37.

And there were plenty more twists to come as the lead changed hands a total of eight times before Andre Harris put Dijon 58-57 up with a jump-shot two minutes from the end of the third period.

They then began to edge away, and a run of seven straight points from Harris made it 72-64 with 4:33 left in the contest.

It was Harris again to make it 74-66 but Medias then responded with six straight points to close within two on Aleksandar Mladenovic's dunk with 2:17 left.

Zacherie Moss hit a jump-shot for Dijon and the teams traded baskets, Dijon always keeping their noses just in front.

With the score at 80-77, Ferdinand Prenom and Jeremy Leloup both missed for Dijon but gathered each other's rebounds, forcing Medias into the foul as the clock reached the last 11 seconds.

Campbell put away both free throws to make it a five-point game, and although Mladenovic responded with another dunk David Melody split a pair of free throws and that was enough to put it out of Medias' reach.

Campbell led Dijon with 24 points while Harris had 23 and Moss 12.

Medias wasted 29 points from Mladenovic while Deven Mitchell had 19 and Dundjerski 13.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes JDA Dijon vs. Gaz Metan Medias

JDA Dijon head coach Jean Louis Borg:
"We knew this team has a certain value, Mladenovic for example scored 29 points. I can't be satisfied by the defensive performance of the team. We've been much more rigorous. I'm satisfied we won, but I can't be proud of our defense tonight."

JDA Dijon player David Melody:
"We had trouble to get in the game, luckily the team managed to raise its game level in the very last minutes of the games."

Gaz Metan Medias head coach Marcel Tenter:
"We lost too many occasions. My players never gave up, I have to congratulate them. Now we have to focus to win the game against Tartu to go through. I would really like to congratulate Jean Louis Borg and his team for their first win in the competition."

Gaz Metan Medias player Slobodan Dundjerski:
"The game was tight during the first half. After coming back from the lockers, it's become much different."
