| NEWSIn the final of EuroBasket 2001, Turkey was the side who started the game well. The Hidayet Turkoglu-Predrag Stojakovic match-up (two teammates from the NBA) proved to benefit no side as both players struggled from the field in the first quarter. 3:27 to go in the quarter, Turkey had a 7-0 run thanks to Besok and Kutluay who had scored the team's first 16 points. Ibrahim Kutluay scored 13 in the quarter. When Turkey took their time-out 01:36, Yugoslavia could make only 1 field goal in their last 7 possessions. Coach Pesic substituted Obradovic for Jaric which suited Yugoslavia in the sense that Obradovic, a real point guard, organized the offense. The quarter ended with a 22-15 Turkey lead. |

In the bronze medal clash, teams have traded baskets during the first period, which stayed close all the way. Both coaches wanted to keep their star players fresh in the early phases by not matching them up against the opponent's. Papic on Gasol and Paraiso on Nowitzki. However, both match-ups happened to be favouring the deadly weapons with Gasol scoring 13 on 3/4 3-point shooting and Nowitzki 10. Extremely high field goal percentage with both teams above 50% in the first period was the reason for the big numbers on the scoreboard: 22-24 for Spain. |

In a game where both sides were looking for a constellation win and taking the seventh place in EuroBasket 2001, the two teams preferred an uptempo style of play. However, neither team hit their shots, combining for 26% from the field (5/19 FG) when Latvia called a timeout with 05:33 remaining in the first period. |
