France European Champion 2001
The French team began with its usual starting five, for the most important game of its history. Right from the beginning, they were handicapped by the refereeing and were inflicted 5 fouls to 0. On the other side, Korstine was the main danger in attack. The first quarter ended with a tie (18 all).

The Spanish took a better start on a very unskillful Lithuanian team.

Led by outstanding Alameda, especially at 3 points shots, Spain quickly took the lead : 23-13 at the end of the first period.

Despite the stake for the fifth World Championship qualifying place, the two teams practised an open game during the first quarter.

The Polish player Dydek, at her best as usual, and Mandic for the Yugoslavian team, turned to be the top scorers (9 points each).
