Ireland face Malta on Saturday in the first of their 3 upcoming games in EuroBasket Division B action.
Ireland overcame Malta last year in the first leg of the Championships after the boys in green took an early lead, as Malta had no answer to Ireland’s size and power, and they won convincingly, 51-90.
Ireland's preparations for their upcoming EuroBasket Division B games move into top gear in August with friendlies against top notch opponents such as Italy, Latvia and Lithuania.
The Irish kick off the run-up to their opening encounter against Malta on 3rd September with a trip to Rimini, Italy where they will match up with Turkey, Italy and Finland.
The Irish Senior men have released their final squad that will compete in Division B EuroBasket action in September.
The Ireland Men get back into competitive action with a home game against Malta on September 3rd at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin. Ireland will then travel to Geneva on September 7th to attempt to repeat their 2004 victory over Switzerland.
Coach Gerry Fitzpatrick is hoping his Ireland team can continue their successful whistle-stop tour of Europe this week by claiming their third win in the space of eight days on Saturday.
After they swept past Malta 90-51 last Saturday, and claimed a 79-68 victory in a bruising encounter with Switzerland back home in Dublin on Wednesday, Fitzpatrick’s troops have jetted out to Bratislava, where they will face Slovakia on Saturday.
