Romania may have bowed out of the 2007 EuroBasket Women after three straight defeats in Group B in Lanciano, but their third showing on Europe's biggest stage in the past 20 years was definitely a learning experience.
Belgium used a 17-0 spurt spanning the third and fourth quarters and survived a late barrage of three-pointers to collect a 74-71 victory over Romania and finish Group B action of the 2007 EuroBasket Women a perfect 3-0.
Ann Wauters led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Anke De Mondt had 13 points and four assists, Kathy Wambe added 10 points and four assists and Laurence Van Malderen chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Pride is about the only thing on the line for Romania when they face Belgium in their final Group B game at the 2007 EuroBasket Women. The 0-2 Romanians have already been eliminated from the competition and would love to leave Lanciano on a high note.
The Belgians also have nothing to play for as they already secured first place in the group and a perfect two victories moving onto the qualifying round.
Four players scored in double figures as Lithuania used an 9-0 third quarter run to pull away from Romania 67-50 for their first victory of the 2007 EuroBasket Women while also eliminating Romania in Group B action in Lanciano.
Lina Brazdeikyte tallied 15 points and four steals, Agne Ciudariene had 14 points while Egle Sulciute chipped in 11 points and Sandra Valuzyte added 10 for Lithuania, who bounced back from a poor showing against Belgium on Monday.
