Germany, Bulgaria Survive Relegation Battle

Germany and Bulgaria both secured their Division A status at the U20 European Championship for Women at the expense of Belgium and Greece.

While Germany already knew their fate coming into Saturday's final action in the Classification Round, Bulgaria knocked off Belgium 74-68 to stay top flight.

Russia Edge Ukraine In Thriller, Italy Advance

Olga Petrova's two foul shots with 11 seconds gave Russia a 60-58 victory over Ukraine to remain undefeated at the U20 European Championship for Women.

In Chieti hosts Italy also advanced with a 67-55 win over Germany.

Spain Overwhelm Montenegro, France Rebound

Reigning champions Spain proved too deep and talented in beating Montenegro 80-61 to remain perfect at the U20 European Championship for Women while France rebounded for a 84-59 victory over Germany.

Anna Carbo scored 16 points in leading five players in double figures in Spain's impressive showing against the 2007 Division B champions Montenegro.

Germans Remain Realistic

German coach Julia Gajewski is not really that concerned about her team's 74-44 loss at the hands of heavy favourites Serbia to open the U20 European Championship for Women.

Germany's goal remains the same as before it started Group A action in Chieti - stave off relegation to Division B.
