Czechs Defeat Finns - Both Fail To Advance

The Czech Republic beat Finland 79-64 on the third day of the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship Women in Sopron but their margin of victory was not big enough to keep their hopes of advancing to the second group stage.

The Czechs have a single victory from their opening two games and even if Greece were to join them and the Finns at 1-2 in Group A by losing to unbeaten Bulgaria on Sunday, the Greeks would advance on a tie breaker - superior goal differential taking into account only the games involving the Czechs and Finland.

Russians Roll To Second Victory - Bulgaria Overcome Finns

Poland were no match for Russia, falling 79-57 despite 18 points from Magdalena Leciejewska.

The Russians stormed out to a 25-12 first-quarter lead to take a vice-like grip on the contest and never turned back.

Fia Ohtonen Shares Her Thoughts In A Video Interview

Kira Kojola may have taken the headlines for her game-winning three-point shot in Finland's surprise 60-57 victory over Greece, but it was Fia Ohtonen who made it possible for her team to be in a position to win.

Ohtonen, described by her coach Seppo Sonkeri as the most important player on the team, scored 17 points while playing the entire game. The 174-cm point guard also pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.

Finns Win With Kojola Three-pointer

Kira Kojola only scored three points for Finland in the opening game of the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship Women on Friday but oh were they big!

With the shot clock about to expire and just 17 seconds remaining, the 1.77m guard buried a shot from the left corner of the court to give the Finns a 60-57 lead against Greece and that's how it finished.
