France stormed out to a big lead early against Spain but had to hold on at the end before recording a 70-63 victory in Group E.
Anael Lardy's three-pointer at the end of the first quarter gave France a 23-10 advantage and they were in command at 35-23 with 1:21 to play in the first half.

But the Spaniards scored the second quarter's last four points and then four straight at the beginning of the third quarter to pull within 38-32.
Jordi Fernandez's team then closed to within three points on three occasions, the last time at 47-44 with just 52 seconds to go in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by Silvia Dominguez.
Lardy replied with a basket and then at the start of the fourth, French small forward Pauline Jannault nailed a three-pointer and added a jumper inside the arc for a 54-44 lead with nine minutes to play.
Jannault would end up scoring a game-high 25 points.
Sara Gomez made a lay-up with 26 seconds to play to make it 67-61, however, Jannault drove the final nail in the Spanish coffin with three seconds to play with a three-pointer before Dominguez finished the scoring with a jumper at the buzzer.
Dominguez led Spain with 16 points.
