EuroLeague Women 2008 is in the books and for the second straight year the ladies from Spartak Moscow Region have a trophy to bring back to Russia with them.

The first day of the EuroLeague Women Final Four is in the books and for our money we got plenty of great basketball including an overtime thriller between Bourges and hosts Brno.

Spartak Moscow Region survived a furious fight-back from hosts Gambrinus Brno on Sunday to capture the EuroLeague Women title for the second time in a row.

Lauren Jackson scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Spartak to a 75-60 triumph. The Australia superstar, who had 35 in Spartak's semi-final success against Ekaterinburg, was named Final Four MVP.

Basketball fans in Brno watched the world's greatest players at the EuroLeague Women Final Four as the likes of Lauren Jackson, Tina Thompson, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi led Spartak Moscow Region to the title.

They also caught a glimpse of the future in Sonja Petrovic of Bourges, who was presented with her FIBA Europe Young Women's Player of the Year award before tip-off of the final between Spartak and Gambrinus Brno.

Caroline Aubert joined UMMC Ekaterinburg for the EuroLeague Women post-season from USO Mondeville to give them another threat from three-point range.

On Sunday, she paid a big dividend for the club with a buzzer-beating three-ball to give Ekaterinburg a 70-69 triumph over Bourges to clinch third place.

Gambrinus Brno coach Jan Bobrovsky and his players lived to fight another day after a stunning overtime victory against Bourges in Friday's second game at the EuroLeague Women Final Four.

Lauren Jackson erupted for 35 points and Tina Thompson weighed in with 24 as Spartak Moscow Region beat fellow Russian heavyweights UMMC Ekaterinburg in the opening game of the EuroLeague Women Final Four on Friday in Brno.

Jackson, the Australia international superstar, also had 12 rebounds as the defending champions won 78-68 but she played the last several minutes in discomfort after injuring her foot.
