They entered the final against Spain as the overwhelming favourites to win, having beaten all their opponents by an average margin of 31 points in the championship. A 2-point loss to Hungary withstanding, the Russians have looked like a team destined to be win the tournament. |

Hungary are the bronze medal winners at the European Championship for U18 Women. They defeated a Jelena Dubljevic-less Serbia & Montenegro side to win their second bronze in the history of the competition (the other came in 1994).
Dubljevic, Serbia & Montenegro’s top scorer and rebounder, was forced to sit out the game after turning an ankle in the closing minutes of her team’s semi-final loss to Spain. |

Ukrainian forward Olexandra Gorbunova led a talented crop of players at the European Championship for U18 Women in Bratislava.
The 185 cm Gorbunova was selected as MVP of the tournament. She led all players in scoring in Bratislava at 21.4 ppg, to which she added 9.8 rpg. Germany were unfortunate enough to face Gorbunova at her best, and in their preliminary round match-up, she scored 23 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. |
