Anton Ponkrashov is one of the main reasons Russia will play at EuroBasket 2015. The team faced elimination during qualification last summer in Italy and had a lot of struggles with their game. It was a perfect time for the captain to step up and Ponkrashov, who was fulfilling the role in Sergei Monia's absence, did just that. He put his team on his shoulders, scored 22 points and made 8 assists and Russia eventually won that match to qualify for the main event. Last season however was difficult for the guard. He started it with Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd and played well enough to get an offer from Russian powerhouse UNICS Kazan. But he spent less than a month in Kazan before suffering a season-ending knee injury at the end of January. Ponkrashov hasn't played since and his form is a doubt but one thing is for sure - he is eager to give everything he has got for the national team.
