Berzins was in top form last summer and played a surprisingly big role in Latvia's qualification campaign for EuroBasket 2015, leading the national team in points, rebounds and blocked shots. Having finally made his debut at a major tournament in 2013 after being left off the main squad in 2011 and 2009, he now stands as possibly the most important big man on the roster. Relatively quick and athletic, the 30-year-old can play inside the post and step out to hit a jumper, which makes him a tough defensive assignment for opponents. After averaging an impressive 14.9 points and 7.9 boards per game for Krasnye Krylia in the VTB League, confidence will be running high for Berzins. Although bigger and stronger centers could cause him some trouble, Coach Bagatskis will likely just have to trust his big man to do his best.
