Hernangomez is the youngest member of the Spanish squad but fully qualified to dispense advice to all the veterans in Berlin as he speaks German, albeit not as fluently as his mother would want. Willy, as everyone calls him, is the oldest son of Margarita Geuer, a former Spanish international of German origins and Guillermo, also a former player. Willy and his brother Juan became the first siblings to be voted on the All-Star Team of an U20 European Championship in consecutive years, in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Hernangomez possesses the frame, skill-set and physical presence of a traditional center, while his footwork and passing ability are reminiscent, up to an extent, of Marc Gasol's. Hernangomez is set to fulfil two of his biggest personal goals this September since, after debuting with Spain at a EuroBasket; he will join Real Madrid's senior squad, following a two-year loan spell at Sevilla.
