U20 France Women Impress Again In Zamora 07 July 2008

Italy showed they can fight back when the chips are down at the Zamora Tournament and France provided plenty of evidence they will be among the leading teams at the forthcoming U20 European Championship for Women.

France went unbeaten in the warm-up tournament, thrashing Italy and Greece (73-30) before edging Spain 65-61.

Ukraine coach Iryna Nagorna was feeling a tad annoyed recently, when her U20 side was competing against the country's senior side.

Her players, she said, "got scared".

Spain's under-20 women's team is receiving some Olympic gold-medal winning instruction this summer from American Cathy Boswell.

A member of the USA team that captured the title at the Los Angeles Games 24 years ago, Boswell is the assistant coach to Spain boss Jordi Fernandez.

The Italy squad that is preparing to host the U20 European Championship for Women was pushed hard by a surprising Romania in the Coconuda Cup in Naples but prevailed in an overtime thriller in the final.

Now Nino Molino's team will be taking part in the Zamora International Tournament in Spain from July 3-7.

France coach Abdou N'Diaye has finalized his roster for the U20 European Championship for Women and included three members of the Bourges team that captured this year's domestic title.

The French champions' Ana Maria Cata Chitiga, Lorraine Lokoka and Carine Paul have each made the final cut and will be with the team in Italy, where this year's under-20 event will be staged.

Spain have named a 15-strong preliminary squad for next month's U20 European Championship for Women.

Jordi Fernandez's side will be looking to defend last year's gold medal triumph when they travel to Chieti, Italy, for the event that will take place from July 11-20.
