Turks Edge Poles In U20 Women’s Game

Turkey defeated Poland 61-58 in a game between two sides warming up for the U20 European Championship for Women (July 15-25) in Latvia.

In the first friendly between the sides in Istanbul, Yelda Kavazoğlu, Simay Karaman and Damla Gezgin poured in 12 points apiece for the winning side.

Mondelo Includes Four American-Based Players In U20 Group

Spain coach Lucas Mondelo has included four players in the American college system in his 14-strong preliminary squad for the U20 European Championship for Women.

They are Mireia Vila of Saint Joseph's, Vega Gimeno of Robert Morris, Florida State's Leonor Rodríguez and Oregon State's Amaia Gastaminza.

Lithuania will compete at the U20 European Championship for Women in Liepaja, Latvia, this summer.

For now, the team is competing at tournament being run by the Basque Basketball Federation in Bilbao, Spain.

France Champions, Overpower Spain In Final

France toppled Spain 74-52 to win the title of the U20 European Championship Women 2009 in Gdynia, Poland. 

Spain opened the game at their run-and-gun tempo and were ahead 23-10 after one period, but then France got physical and the rest of the evening was all theirs.
