GAME REPORT

Third Time Lucky For Tartu Rock

20. Justin Ingram (Tartu Rock)
Justin Ingram had a nice overall performance of 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Tartu Rock

Tartu Rock recorded a first success of the season at the third time of asking by easing past JDA Dijon 74-62 to leave the French club winless at the bottom of EuroChallenge Group D.

After opening the campaign with two losses, there was not only a palpable sense of relief at finally emerging with a victory, but also satisfaction in a strong performance from tip to buzzer.

Once Kristo Saage dropped a three-ball to put the Estonian team 19-10 ahead after seven minutes had elapsed, they took control and never looked back.

Dijon narrowed the gap to make it a one-shot game at 23-21, it was to be as close as they would get with a 9-0 run by the home team midway through the third period killing off their hopes.

That put Tartu Rock 57-40 ahead, and despite the visitors trying to launch a rescue mission at the start of the last quarter, the home side stayed composed.

Another perimeter score by Saage re-enforced their superiority and effectively wrapped up the win at 71-51 despite five minutes still remaining on the game clock.

The real star for Tartu Rock was Ivan Nelyubov who not only claimed 15 points from five of six floor shooting, but also coralled eight rebounds.

Zacherie Moss excelled in defeat with an economical 16 points for JDA Dijon.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Tartu Rock vs. JDA DIjon

JDA Dijon player Zacherie Moss
"We didn't play well tonight. As long as I have played with coach Jean-Loius, I have never seen a team like this. We played bad defense and they were driving past us too easily. They wanted the win more than we did and if you shoot so badly on the road, then you can't win the game."

JDA Dijon head coach Jean-Louis Borg
"We didn't play the way we usually play and this is not how we played the last game on Saturday in the French Championship. Tonight I did not see my team - no defense and energy. Our defense was not ready tonight and our shooting percentage was not good."

Tartu Rock head coach Gert Kullamäe
"It was a really good victory for us. We know that Western European teams have a lot of Americans and they are very active especially at rebounding. But today we managed to win the rebounding and this is why it makes me really happy. The most important thing is that we won the game, especially in a situation where we have two defeats and we really want to go to the next round."
